On 10 October, the World Health Organisation (WHO) observes World Mental Health Day. The event is meant to increase public awareness about the importance of mental health, mental health services, and mental health workers worldwide.

There are also efforts to mobilise new mental health initiatives and to discuss how to make mental healthcare more readily available to people in countries where it is rare to nonexistent.
Each World Mental Health Day has its own special theme, which serves to focus efforts on some particular aspect of mental health.
First celebrated in 1993, World Mental Health Day is already a quarter-century old tradition. Many countries will organise their own special events to mark the day, and you may see mental health related programs on national media outlets.
